Basic Questions
Short drama apps share one simple model. You watch bite-size vertical episodes. The first few cost nothing. Beyond those, episodes cost coins or a pass. That split is the root of most confusion. These five answers are the place to start.
What counts as a short drama app?
It streams vertical video made for phones. A series is broken into many tiny episodes. Storylines tend to favor billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf romances are well liked too. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama are the top names. The format started out in China, under the name duanju.
How long is each episode?
Most episodes run one micro drama app to two minutes. Western shoots often aim for 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually spans 20 to 100 episodes. Married at First Sight shows 90 in ReelShort’s listing. ReelShort’s hit Double Life series lists 60. A complete series can be as long as a movie.
Why do episodes cut off at cliffhangers?
That is usually where free episodes end. ReelShort says its first 5 to 15 episodes are usually free. 8 to 10 is the figure cited in industry reporting. The moment of peak tension is where the lock tends to land. That timing is the business model. It is also a top complaint from viewers.
Who is behind ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort is owned by Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California. Backing that studio is China’s COL Group. Running DramaBox is Singapore’s StoryMatrix, which is part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama is made by Holywater, which was founded in Kyiv in 2020. An equity stake went to Fox Entertainment in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, while DramaBox followed in 2023.
Can I watch on a browser or a TV?
Yes, but with limits. There is an Apple TV app for My Drama. We found no verified ReelShort TV app at all. ReelShort’s website supports Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. Free unlocks work only in the app.
Pricing
Questions about money come up most often. The figures shown are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary depending on country, platform and promotion. Treat every number as a rough guide. Before anything else, always look at the pricing screen. Here is what the listings show.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and what is free really is free. What people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want is the catch. Opening episodes cost nothing. The download is free. Later episodes require coins or a VIP pass. Free coins come from ads and check-ins.
How do coins actually work?
Episodes are unlocked with coins, the app’s currency. An episode runs roughly 60 coins, according to ReelShort’s blog. Its smallest pack is about $4.99 for 500 coins. Larger packs tack on extra coins. A 7-day check-in streak earns 100+ coins. One rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Can coins expire?
It varies by the app. ReelShort says free reward coins usually run out. The coins you paid for do not expire. Things work differently at My Drama. Under its terms, coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first, and stay active.
How much does a weekly pass cost?
The common US price is around $19.99 a week. ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama list it. Cheaper tiers appear in some apps. ShortMax’s listing shows $9.99, while GoodShort starts around $5.99. These passes all renew on their own. Four forgotten weeks cost four times as much.
Do apps offer monthly or yearly plans?
Some apps sell them. ReelShort’s blog puts a yearly plan at about $199.99. The monthly price varies from page to page. So we treat that figure as unconfirmed. Roughly $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. In the US, ShortMax shows only weekly passes.
Is it possible to watch without paying?
Yes, if you have patience. Start with each series’ free first episodes. Watch rewarded ads to open up more. Maintain a daily check-in streak. On top of that, ReelShort runs official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. Using all four together goes furthest.
Subscriptions and Cancelling
A weekly pass keeps renewing until you stop it. Plenty of people are surprised by that. It is quick to cancel once you know where. How you paid decides where you cancel. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Purchases on a website are the company’s to handle.
Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and this is a common mistake. According to Apple, deleting an app does not end its subscription. Google says the same thing about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms carry the same warning. The pass does not stop renewing until you cancel. Cancel first, delete afterward.
How do I cancel on an iPhone?
First, open the Settings app. Next, tap your name at the top. Select Subscriptions after that. Find and pick the drama app. Tap Cancel and then confirm it. Do it a day before renewal to be safe.
How do I cancel on Android?
To start, open the Google Play Store app. Go to your Subscriptions list. Find the short drama app there and select it. Tap Cancel and go through the prompts. Uninstalling, remember, cancels nothing. Recheck the list once more to confirm the change.
Is it possible to cancel inside the app?
Sometimes, though the store route is safer. In ShortMax’s terms, there is mention of an in-app option under About Subscription. Store buyers are sent to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google control only what they billed. Website buyers should reach out to the company. Keep a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why was I billed after a free trial?
Trial wording can trip people up. ShortMax’s developer acknowledges that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels puzzled people. Under its terms, passes renew 24 hours before they expire. You pay the same price for the renewal. Cancel one day before any trial ends. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Refunds
Who took your money determines the refund route. Play charges are handled by Google. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Website charges are handled by the companies. None of these routes guarantees a refund. This table lays out each path.
| Where you paid | How you cancel | Refund route | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, then the developer | Uninstalling alone does not cancel |
| Website | The app company’s account or support | Only the app company | Often non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms |
How can I get an Apple refund?
Go to Apple’s Report a Problem page. Sign in with the Apple ID that paid. Pick the charge and explain in a few words. Apple’s reply usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours. It is Apple that decides, not the app maker. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How does a Google Play refund work?
What matters most here is timing. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Request it via Google Play directly. When that window is over, contact the developer. ReelShort sends users to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast when a renewal catches you by surprise.
What happens with website purchases?
Those purchases go through the app company. Neither Apple nor Google can help there. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. Its terms give EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Each other company sets its own rules. Before you pay online, check the terms.
Is it possible to refund unused coins?
Usually not, and the terms confirm it. Coin purchases are final, under My Drama’s terms. Unless its own fault makes a product unusable, ShortMax declines refunds. A store request may help with accidental purchases. Until a series hooks you, buy the smallest bundle. Then mistakes cost you less.
Safety and Look-Alike Apps

Name mix-ups are everywhere here. Misspellings point to small unrelated apps. Some sites are copies of big brands. A few downloads are not safe. Using the real names protects your money. These answers separate the real from the fake.
Is there an app called Real Short?
No, not as far as we could find. Real Short is just a misspelling of ReelShort. That applies to “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The correct name is a single word. New Leaf Publishing is the App Store seller. Make sure of that before downloading.
What exactly are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
All three are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, which people find via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, shows 50K+ Android installs. It has no tie to ReelShort or DramaBox. Often typed “daily short”, DailyShort has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV, an Android TV app, has 10K+ installs. Most people searching probably mean GoodShort.
Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?
Very likely, although it is unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Its website sends visitors on to ShortTV’s site. Both launched in September 2023. No official rename announcement could be found. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also surface unrelated apps.
Is it safe to use mod APKs and coin generators?
No, and none of them is official. A mod APK is an altered app copy from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike describes its download as an unofficial modified version. Coin generators, too, are unofficial. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Only use official stores and websites.
Why is ReelShort’s Trustpilot rating low?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Charges after cancelling are a common complaint. Weekly auto-renewals are frequently mentioned. Others complain about coin prices and refused refunds. Any review site reflects the people who chose to post. Read it as a checklist rather than a verdict.
